Poetry Competition entries sent for judging
We’re delighted to announce that this year’s competition had 113 fabulous entries from local children at Yester Primary and Belhaven Hill School. What creativity we have in our midst! Poems have now been sent off for our judge, Liz Lochhead, to enjoy.
This year, we even had interest from afar…a class at Court Moor School, Fleet, Hampshire sent us a water poem:
What am I?
Drunk by humans
Split by boats
Frozen by weather
Splattered on coats
Priceless to humans
At the bottom of loos
Mixed with teabags
Parted by canoes
Gather on the roadside
Friends with people
Foe to electricity
Sometimes lethal
With the help of evaporation, I fly

Today is National Poetry Day, so time to celebrate all things rapping, rhyming and the written word. If you fancy taking part, and penning your own masterpiece, why not enter into our annual competition? Like NPD, our theme is water so there is plenty of scope for wonderful onomatopoeia – plip plop, pitter patter, gurgle, whoosh …

Some new photos have been added to the Garvald Website Gallery, including pictures of some of the 2013 Flower Show exhibits and photographs taken before and after the trees behind the park were felled. Update: Garvald Poetry Competition 2013
We are pleased to announce that Scots Makar, playwright and poet Liz Lochhead will be judging the Garvald Poetry Competition this year. For more information about the competition, see the Poetry Competition 2013 page. Last year’s poems were impressive so we’re really looking forward to reading your entries this year. Good luck!
Garvald Poetry Competition 2013
We have now launched the 2013 Garvald Poetry Competition. National Poetry Day is on Thursday 3rd October and to celebrate this Primary School pupils are invited to send in their poems about ‘Water’. The closing date is Friday 11th October. For more information see the Poetry Competition 2013 page.
