Plant sale & coffee afternoon – Sat 18th May

A reminder that the Plant Sale will be this coming Saturday, 18th May at 2-3.30pm, outside the village hall.  Please drop off any donations on the day after 1pm, or in advance to Malcolm at Whitelaws.  Last year the sale was well supported and made £230 for the hall!

Isla Evatt and team will be in the hall at the same time selling teas, coffees and cakes to raise funds for the hall.  Any donations of baking would be appreciated and can also be dropped off at the hall on the day after 1pm or in advance to Isla at Burnbrae.

Thanks

Garvald Village Hall Update

The Garvald Village Hall Committee want to provide an update for the village on the hall and upcoming events and actions.

The committee are currently working with a range of building specialists to obtain surveys and quotations for remedial work required to ensure the longevity of the building for use by the village for many years to come. The works will be scheduled around regular bookings as far as possible and plenty of notice will be given.

There are five weddings happening in the hall this year which is wonderful as it is super to see the hall being used for such happy occasions; the weddings also provide essential funding.

The committee would also like to remind villagers that they are available to facilitate and support with any events individuals or small groups wish to arrange. Some examples that have happened in the past and some current suggestions are as follows:

Fancy dress party
Formal ball
Burns supper
Table Jumble sale
Village Monthly Sunday lunch

Well done to everyone who came along to the Garvald Christmas Dinner last night and provided such a feast for us to share. Special thanks to our VIP guests Jean Waddell and Dorothy Nisbet who started the tradition 50 years ago, and Hurray for Hazel and Father Mark who made the speeches. The whole event was masterminded by Liz Leather with a trusty squad  of helpers.

There are still a couple of dishes and serving spoons to collect – Saturday around 1pm just before the children’s party would probably be best or else contact your favourite Village Hall committee member.

The GVHT AGM will be held in the hall on Thursday 16th November at 7:30pm. All residents are encouraged to attend for an update on this important part of our community. As the AGM is not expected to last too long we have taken the opportunity of following it with a presentation from Haddington Camera Club which I’m sure will be interesting and informative.Wine and cheese will also be on offer, making this a community occasion not to be missed. Hopefully this will attract a good turn out. Do please come along.

    • Show potential hirers around the hall
    • Invoice regular users and bank any cash
    • Keep the hall treasurer informed of monies due in the hall account
    • Liaise with regular users regarding any conflict of dates
    • Liaise with cleaner re cleaning schedules
    • Keep calendar updated
    • Open up and close for single use hires
    • Complete health & safety check with new hires

A Successful Sale & Coffee Afternoon

A very big thank you to all who took part in organising and attending the Village Hall Table Sale and Coffee Afternoon on Sunday afternoon.  It was great to see the hall so busy with many people turning up to browse the great variety of items for sale and sample the tasty bakes.

The event was a big success and raised just under £380 for the hall!  We’re sure there will be more of these events to come in the future.

Garvald Village Hall Coffee Afternoon & Table Top Sale

Following the success of the fundraising coffee afternoon a few months back, Isla has decided to host a second on Sunday 8th October, 2-4pm.

We have decided to combine it with a table top sale.  So, if you have some unwanted items that you have been looking to sell on, why not book a table?  Tables will cost £10 with the proceeds going to the Village Hall funds.  Takings from the sale itself will be kept by the seller.

    FUNDRAISING TABLE TOP SALE

Baking donations for the coffee afternoon would be very much welcomed.  Please contact Shirley on 830270 if you would like to donate.

Tables for the sale can be booked by calling Sarah on 830334.

We look forward to seeing you there!
